2006 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 

Terry Sosa on Doublet

Terry (an adult amateur) heads up the biostatistics department for Quintiles in RTP. Terry has previously owned two lower level dressage horses, and purchased Doublet from Cathy Morelli as a schoolmaster in the Spring of 2004. Doublet is a 20 year old, 16.3 hand Thoroughbred/Hanoverian cross. Doublet resides in full training at North Star Training Center.

At March Magic, Terry and Doublet began their show season by placing Fourth and Fifth Place in the Prix St. Georges with 62% and 60.5% respectively.

At Dressage in the Sandhills, they won Second Place in the PSG class with 67.25%. They the debuted at Intermediare 1 and scored a respectable 61.0%. Terry and Doublet also won the Sylvia Miller Memorial Award at this show for PSG high score for Adult Amateur.

At CDI-Raleigh, they earned third place for the Prix St. Georges class with a score of 63.3%.

At Dressage at Fellowship, Terry and Doublet won First Place in the Intermediare 1 with 70.8% and won the FEI High Score award.

At Labor of Love, they placed third in the Prix St. Georges with 65.3% and they won the Intermediare 1 with 69.3%.

Terry and Doublet earned the USDF national ranking of 17th at PSG for Adult Amateur and 5th at Intermediare 1 for Adult Amateur for 2006. Terry also earned her Intermediare scores towards her USDF Gold Medal. Terry and Doublet are focused on getting to Grand Prix for the 2007 show season!
Dawn Weniger on Indecent Proposal

Indy is a 13 year old, 15.3 hand Connemara/Thoroughbred mare. Dawn has been a student of Lynn's since 1990, and trailers Indy to North Star Training Center for weekly lessons and clinics. Dawn achieved her lifetime goal of training a horse from unbroken to FEI when she and Indy went down centerline at Prix St. Georges at Dressage in the Sandhills, where they earned Second Place with 64.8%. By the end of the season, they had qualified for USDF’s year end awards with a very respectable median of 63.5%.

At Summertime Blues, they won the Prix St. Georges with 64.8% and Second in the FEI Test of Choice [PSG/I 1] with 67%.

At Dressage at Fellowship, Dawn and Indy placed Fourth in the Prix St. Georges with 65%.

At Made in the Shade, they again won the Prix St. Georges with 65%

At Labor of Love, they took home Fifth Place in the Prix St. Georges USDF Qualifier with 63.5% and earned recognition with a score of 64%.

At Pinehurst Fall, Dawn and Indy took Second Place at Fourth "1" with 62.6% and they also placed second in the Prix St. Georges with 64%.

Donna Christopher on Dancer

Donna Christopher is the VP of Operations for Almac Clinical Services, and the mother of three girls. She has worked with Lynn for the past 11 years.

Dancer is a 7 year old, 16.3 hand Hanoverian gelding. He is a half brother to Lynn's horse d'Artagnan; they share the same sire (Del Piero). Dancer resides at Donna’s farm in Bahama, spends the winters with Lynn in Florida, and trailers Dancer for weekly lessons at North Star Training Center.

At Dressage at Fellowship, Donna and Dancer earned Second Place at Training Level Test 2 with 66%
Kristi Williams on Graphite

Kristi (an adult amateur from Durham) is a research scientist on the faculty of Duke University Medical School. She came from a hunter background, and Graphite is her first endeavor at dressage. Graphite is a 9 year old, 17.1 hand, Thoroughbred/Percheron gelding who was started under saddle by Kristi in 2002. Kristi trailers Graphite to North Star Training Center for weekly lessons.

At the CDI-Raleigh, Kristi and Graphite earned First Place at First Level "4" with a score of 68%. They also took Second Place with 66.6% and Fourth Place with 63.3%.

At the BLM Championships, this was Kristi’s first time showing at the Second Level! Kristi and Graphite won First Place with 62%!!!

They finished up the year with a bang by winning both their Second level classes at the Latta Dressage show. .
Jeanie Battle and Tiny Dancer

Jeanie is in charge of all the orders processed at Constrata Surface Innovations. "Blackie" is an 8 year old 16 hand Hanoverian/Thoroughbred that Jeanie purchased in 2003. Jeanie trailers Blackie to North Star Training Center for lessons and weekly stays.

At the CYOA show in May, Blackie won her Training Level Test 2 class with a 66%. CYOA stands for Choose Your Own Adventure, it was held at Double D Equestrian Center.

At CDI-Raleigh, Jeanie and Blackie took Second Place at Training Level 2 with a score of 68.5%. The two also took Fourth Place at Training Level 4 Open [J-Y] with a score of 61%.
Mary Von Werne on Intact

Mary Von Werne on Intact. Intact is a 21 years old Belgian warmblood. He is owned by Joy Clarke and Carolyn Kotila of Bloomfield Hills Michigan. Mary is the trainer at Cedar Hill Farms, in Monclure, where she trains hunter/jumpers and dreams of one day becoming a dressage trainer. Mary trailers Intact to North Star Training Center for weekly lessons, and participates in clinics.

At Labor of Love, the pair won both Fifth and Sixth Place in the Prix St. Georges with respective scores of 65.8% and 62.8%. Most amazingly, this was Mary’s first dressage show above training level!!!

Mary and Intact finished up the season at the Latta Dressage Show by placing 4th with a 60.5% and 3rd with a 64% . .
Patrick Marley on Honey Bright Dream

Patrick (from Burlington) teaches and trains dressage horses and is the coach for the Intercollegiate Dressage Association for Elon University. Honey is an 11 year old, 15 hand, Quarter horse mare, who was purchased "green broke" in 2003. Patrick trailers Honey to weekly lessons at North Star Training Center, and participates in clinics.

At Dressage at Latta, Patrick and Honey Bright Dream earned Third and Fifth Place in the Prix St. Georges with scores of 60.3% and 60.5%.

At Dressage at Fence, the Patrick earned his USDF Silver Medal by earning a score of 60.3% in the Prix St. Georges class.

At Dressage at Fellowship, they earned recognition in the Prix St. Georges with 61%.

At Made in the Shade, they earned Third Place in the Prix St. Georges with 61%.

At Labor of Love, they earned a score of 61% in the Prix St. Georges.

Closing out the season at the NCDCTA Championships at Williamston, Patrick and Honey were Reserve Champions in the Prix St. Georges.

The pair ended up the year winning the USDF All Breeds/American Quarter Horse Association honor at Prix St. Georges!
Anita Quinn on Southern Comfort "Shelly"

At the Ocala Winter I HT in FLorida. Shelly was phenomenal in BNH (beginner novice horse). The pair earned a dressage score of a 31.5 (68.5%) and finished 2nd in their division.






2005 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 

Terry Sosa on Doublet

Terry's debut at Fourth level was at Dressage in the Sandhills, where she captured the High Score Championship with a score of 65%

Terry's debut at Prix St. Georges was at the CDI-Raleigh where she achieved a score of 68.5% and earned her USDF Silver Medal.


Cady Erickson on Zuni

Cady Erickson on Turn-To-Zuni. Cady is an adult amateur from Chapel Hill who enjoys both dressage and combined training. She worked many years for GE Capital Assurance as a regional sales manager, and is now retired. Cady has studied with Lynn for over a decade. Zuni is a 15-year-old, 17 hand, thoroughbred mare who resides at North Star Training Center.

This year they placed second in the novice division at Thoroughbred Training Center Horse Trials, and won the novice division at Longleaf Pines Horse Trials.

Cady and Zuni placed 10th (of of 51 horses) in the Novice Division at the American Eventing Championships at the Carolina Horse Park.


Kristi Williams on Graphite

Kristi Williams on Graphite. Kristi (an adult amateur from Durham) is a research scientist at UNC at Chapel Hill. She came from a hunter background, and Graphite is her first endeavor at dressage. Graphite is an 8 year old, 17.1 hand, Thoroughbred/Percheron gelding who was started under saddle by Kristi in 2002. Kristi trailers Graphite to North Star Training Center for weekly lessons.

At Dressage in the Sandhills they took home the High Score Championship at both Training level (76%) and First level (72%).

At CDI-Raleigh they took home three blue ribbons at First level with scores of 70%, 68% and 65%

At Fellowship Farm, they showed First Level test "3" for the first time, and won their class with a 68.8%

At Labor of Love they showed First Level test "4" for the first time, and won their class with a 69%

At Pinehurst Fall Dressage, they won both First level 4 classes with scores in the high 60's.

At A Capital Idea they won the NCDCTA First Level Championships

Kristi and Graphite ended the year 8th in the Nation - USDF Adult Amateur at First Level.


Dawn Weniger on Indy

Dawn Weniger on Indecent Proposal. Dawn teaches dressage and trains horses out of her farm in Apex. Indy is a 12 year old, 15.3 hand Connemara/Thoroughbred mare. Dawn has been a student of Lynn's since 1990, and trailers Indy to North Star Training Center for weekly lessons and clinics.

Indy is a "hot" and somewhat complicated horse to ride. Dawn's patience and tactful riding has brought her along to where she is today. It was considered a huge success to show Third level "3" and Fourth level "1" at Dressage in the Sandhills and at the CDI-Raleigh and achieve scores above 60% both places.

At Pinehurst Fall Dressage they won their Third Level 3 class with a 70%, and their Third Level 1 class with a 66%


Olga Wagner on S2K

Olga Wagner on S2K. Olga (an adult amateur from Durham) is a computer scientist for Nortel in RTP. "S" is the produce of a Standardbred mare that Olga bred to a Dutch stallion. "S" is now a 5 year old, 16 hand mare that also excels at jumping. Olga trailers S to North Star Training Center for weekly lessons and occasionally for weekends.

The CDI-Raleigh was one of their first outings, and Olga was quite pleased to attain a 62% and second place at First level test 2.


Dawn Weniger on Doublet

Dawn Weniger on Doublet. Dawn teaches dressage and trains horses out of her farm in Apex. Dawn took over the ride on Doublet last July, while his owner, Terry, was sidelined expecting her first baby.

Last fall, Dawn showed Doublet in her first Prix St. Georges and was awarded her USDF Silver Medal.

This spring, Dawn showed Doublet in her first Grand Prix, and earned her USDF Gold Medal.


Patrick Marley on Honey

Patrick Marley on Honey Bright Dream. Patrick (from Burlington) teaches and trains dressage horses and is the coach for the Intercollegiate Dressage Association for Elon University. Honey is a 10 year old, 15 hand, Quarter horse mare, who was purchased "green broke" in 2003. Patrick trailers Honey to weekly lessons at North Star Training Center.

At the March Magic Dressage show they earned the USDF Bronze Medal by winning the Third level class with a 65%

At Dressage at Fence they won the Fourth Level "1" class with a 60%

At the CDI-Raleigh they achieved the first leg of the USDF Silver Medal by successfully showing Fourth level with scores of 63% and 61%.

At Fellowship Farm they won the open division of Fourth Level "1" with a 61.6%.

At Pinehurst Fall Dressage they were 2nd in both their Fourth Level Classes.

At A Capital Idea they were 2nd in their Fourth 2 class with a 60.9%


Andrew Weniger on Wylie

Andrew Weniger on Wylie Q. Andrew is married to another North Star student - Dawn Weniger, proprietress of Firstview Farm in Apex. Andrew showed saddle seat as a youngster, and has been studying dressage with Lynn since 1990. Dawn and Andrew purchased Wylie as an unbroken three year old, and Dawn had tremendous success with him last year in the FEI 5 Year Old division. Andrew took over the ride on 17.2 hands Wylie in 2005. Since then, they were:

Dover/USDF Amateur Champions (Second Level) at March Magic Dressage

Third level High Score Award Winners at Dressage in the Sandhills

Winner of a Third level class at the CDI-Raleigh with a 60% and completed Andrew's scores for his USDF Bronze medal.


Karen Rourk on Laurenzo

Karen Rourk is the Director of the Clinical Development and Support Group at Duke University Medical Center. Karen has owned and trained many horses in dressage including Jet Wings where she earned her bronze and silver medals. Karen has been riding with Lynn since 1994 and Lynn helped with earning all of these awards.

Karen's current horse is Laurenzo who is a 17.2 hand 4 year old Hanoverian gelding purchased from Mary Messinger as an unbroken 3 year old. Laurenzo debuted at training level in the fall of 2004 in Pinehurst and scored a 70%. This spring at Pinehurst, Laurenzo was 2nd and 3rd in Training Level Tests 3 and 4 with scores in the upper 60's.

At Labor of Love, Karen had the winning ride on Laurenzo in the Training level "3" class with a score of 73%.

At Pumpkin Patch Dressage, Laurenzo received a score of 75.6% for his Training level 4 class, and 69.8% for his debut at First level 1 class. What a great way to end his season by winning all three of his classes.
Karen Rourk on Winnipeg

Karen also rides Winnipeg who is a 4 year old 16.2 hand Oldenburg mare that is owned and bred by Mary Jane Rivers. Jet Wings was also bred and owned by Mary Jane Rivers and is Winnipeg's half brother.

Winnipeg showed in Pinehurst this spring, scoring in the 60's and placed third and fourth in her training level classes.

At the Labor of Love, Winnipeg placed 2nd, 3rd twice and 4th in her classes with all the scores in the mid 60's and above.

At Pumpkin Patch Dressage in November, Winnipeg won all 3 of her training level classes with the highlight at training level test 4 with a 72.6%.


Cathy Morelli on BeSe

At the ZADA WEF Dressage Classic in Florida, Cathy and BeSe won the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Special.

At the ESDCTA Memorial Day show they won the Grand Prix with a 69.57%.
Cathy Morelli on Sitni

Sitni is owned by Leslie Valente and is in full training
with Cathy.

Cathy just started Sitni at the Prix St. George's level and has won all four of his classes so far this year.
Anita Quinn on Southern Comfort

Anita Quinn's newest eventing trainee is also known as "Shelly". Shelly is a 5 year old, 16.2 hand, off the track Thoroughbred, who is owned by Bobby A. Hines. Anita brought Shelly fresh off the track to Lynn at North Star Training Center in April. At their first outing in July, the pair finished with their dressage score of 63.5% at MacNair's Combined Test. In August, they were awarded Dressage High Score with a 68.5% from CYOA schooling horse trials. Look for Anita and Shelly to make their novice debut this fall.
Anita Quinn on Magothy Bridge "Cooper"

Anita hails from Chicago and is a Molecular Microbiologist for the NC Dept of Agriculture. Anita showed hunters, exercised Thoroughbreds on the track, and was on the Intercollegiate Equestrian Team in college where she was introduced to the sport of eventing. She has spent the last 4 yrs in NC, bringing along young horses and retraining off-the-track Thoroughbreds for eventing. Anita trailers Cooper to North Star Training Center for weekly lessons.

This year Cooper and Anita won their Training Level Divisions at both Longleaf Horse Trials and the Horse Trials at the Ark. They have qualified for and are looking forward to the 2005 American Eventing Championships at the Carolina Horse Park in September.

Dancer is a 6 year old, 16.3 hand Hanoverian gelding. He is a half brother to Lynn's horse d'Artagnan; they share the same sire (Del Piero). Dancer resides in full training at North Star Training Center. Donna and Dancer debuted at Training 1 at Fellowship Farm and placed 2nd with a 68.6%. At the Labor of Love Show in Raleigh, they placed 4th at Training 1 with a 64% and 6th at Training 2 with a 66.5%.

RECIPE FOR A SUCCESSFUL DRESSAGE HORSE

 

Ingredients:

  • A nice horse
  • Proper stable management
  • Classical training
  • Good communication between stable staff and trainer
  • Honesty and trust between trainer and owner
  • Consistent examinations by a veterinarian with a keen eye for subtleties
  • A knowledgeable farrier willing to work with the veterinarian and owner
  • An experienced and thorough dentist
  • Alternative medicine (acupuncture, massage, magnets, cold laser)
  • Directions:
    Carefully mix above ingredients together, add a lot of hard work, patience, love, and luck.
